MINNEAPOLIS — A man is accused of endangering the safety of a baby in a boat chase on Lake Minnetonka.

A criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County says 33-year-old Ryan Krueger was driving a boat and circling the child’s mother who was in the water July 4. Authorities say the woman jumped in the lake after an argument with Krueger. When officers approached Krueger, he sped away with the 9-month-old child, who was not wearing a life jacket.

Officers were able to contain Krueger’s boat after a 15-minute chase. The complaint says Krueger swung at officers as they tried to arrest him and used the baby as a shield when they tried to subdue him with pepper spray.

Krueger’s blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit. Court records do not list a defense attorney.
