Mower County officials say a building manager for a rural Austin apartment complex has complied with the county’s request to fumigate apartments for cockroaches.
Community Health Director Lisa Kocer said all but a handful of apartments have been fumigated by a professional firm hired by manager Jason Korfhage of Dune Acquisitions, LLC. The rest of the apartments will be fumigated soon, according to Kocer.
“We are pleased that the landlord has completed the request of the board,” she said.
The county board officially requested Korfhage hire fumigators earlier this month after county officials received complaints about cockroaches from apartment tenants. After failing to resolve the issue with the landlord, the board authorized Environmental Services Director Angie Knish and Kocer to inspect the public health threat at its May 27 meeting.
The two inspected 12 of the roughly 20 apartment units with Fritz Lubinski of Rochester’s Adams Pest Control.
They found cockroaches in four units and four other tenants reported the bugs.
