All Stars 13AA team earns state berth

Led by Corey Webber’s strong pitching performance, against Rochester, the Austin All Stars Reichel foods took second place in the St. Croix Classic and earned a berth in the state tourney.

A diving catch by Kyle Berglund sealed that win. Taylor Arett was strong on the mound, and the defense was led by Berglund, Ryan Risuis, Tanner Meineke, Carlos Botello and Holden Londino-Green.

“It was a great team effort” said Coach Damien Green, “The boys came together as a team, and coach Meineke and I were very pleased with the teams play and effort.”

The Reichel Stars will be in Owatonna this weekend.

The Eagles Club All Stars, playing in Mahtomedi, lost 5-4 to Medota Heights last weekend. The Stars had the tying run on third, but an attempted squeeze fell short after a pitch in the dirt was blocked by the Mendota catcher. The Eagles bounced back and took a 10-4 win over Oakdale in their second game. The rest of the tourney was cancelled due to rain.

Wednesday the Eagles will leave for Omaha, Neb. for a tourney and a chance to watch a College World Series Game.

The Jays played only one game in the Blue Earth Tourney, before it was halted due to rain, but they beat Northrup 9-6 with Joey Schammel, Garrett Lahann, Brendan Kennedy and Jared Lillemon leading the hitting attack.

The Jays will be in Albert Lea this weekend.

Local 9 also ran into weather problems as did the CMG and KC’s who had their games cancelled.

The All Stars Eagles tourney at the Riverland baseball Complex, was won by Northrup who beat Hopkins 7-6 for the title.
