A 34-year-old Stewartville man was arrested Sunday morning after police found 30 to 40 implement batteries in his truck.
Austin Police Capt. Dave McKichan said police found the man parked near Kwik Trip on Fourth Street Northwest at about 3:45 a.m. Sunday. Officers became suspicious and found the man, who was driving, had a suspended license and had previously been arrested for stealing scrap metal.
Police later found batteries were missing from recycling totes at nearby SEMA Equipment. The man, who was let go by police at the time, was later arrested by Olmsted County authorities, according to McKichan.
McKichan said police also tied the suspect’s bootprint to a print near the recycling totes. A second man who was with the suspect was not charged.
