The Austin baseball team snapped five-game losing skid as it beat Mankato East 5-4 in Dick Seltz Field Tuesday.
The Packers (2-7 overall, 2-7 Big Nine) mustered just three hits in the game, but Alex Ciola came up with the biggest hit of the game when he hit a two-out single that scored three runs when it got past Mankato East’s left fielder to put Austin 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
“We were hitting the ball hard, but it was just right at them,” Austin head coach Chris Googlewski said. “Alex has been hitting the ball well all year and that was a clutch hit for him. The team battled throughout the whole game.”
Austin senior Steven Clennon picked up the win in relief as he didn’t allow a run in three and two-thirds of an inning.
“It was a good win for Steven,” Gogolewski said. “He can be called upon to throw strikes.”
