The Austin baseball team had its season come to an end when it lost 6-0 at No. 7 seeded Red Wing (6-13 overall) Thursday.

The No. 10 seeded Packers (4-14 overall) had a runner on third in the first inning and runners on second and third in the second, but they couldn’t get a run in. The Wingers scored five times to go up 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth.

“If we could’ve gotten at least two of those three runners in, that would’ve changed the way this game went,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “We both were playing a game of small ball and they ended up having the big inning.”

Austin senior Jacob Kempen pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings and he went 2-for-3 at the plate in his last game with the Packers.

Gogolewski, who was in his first year at the helm, is hoping his team can do some things better next season.

“We’re just looking for a little bit more consistency defensively, a better mental approach at the plate and our pitchers establishing the strike zone early.
