Grandson of Austin natives selected in USHL draft

Riley Tufte, grandson of Austin natives Bill and Julie Tufte, was the first overall pick in Phase 1 of the 2014 United States Hockey League Draft. The Fargo Force selected Tufte, who is a forward from Ham Lake, Minn.

Tufte, a sophomore, recorded a career-high in points with 35 this past season at Blaine High School as he tallied 17 goals and 18 assists in 25 games. He was a major contributor for a squad that finished 20-4-1 overall. Tufte’s freshman year saw him tally just three points.

Tufte, who is 6-4 and 200 pounds, recently committed to play college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Tufte is the son of Jamie and Amy Tufte. Jamie is an Austin native.
