State Republican leaders stopped in Austin Monday to discuss the recent legislative session and counteract Democratic proposals by offering other solutions.
Republican state legislators Rep. Mark Anderson, Lake Shore; Rep. Jenifer Loon, Eden Prairie; Rep. Kurt Daudt, Crown; Rep. Greg Davids, Preston; Sen. David Hann, Eden Prairie; Rep. Tim Sanders, Blaine; and Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen, Alexandria visited Austin Municipal Airport Monday to discuss the 2013-2014 biennium.
Republicans say the recent session will increase state spending by 12 percent and the $2.1 billion in taxes raised in 2013 could harm job creation in the state.
“As the 2014 session ended, Democrats ignored recent budget warnings and continued to commit hardworking taxpayers to unsustainable spending increases, proving their priorities are wrong for Minnesota,” Daudt said in a press release. “By taking dollars out of the economy to pay for the historic increase in spending, Minnesotans will have fewer opportunities to find good-paying jobs.”
Hann also took Gov. Mark Dayton and other Democrats to task over MNsure.
“Gov. Dayton and Democrats spent the 2014 session avoiding everything related to Obamacare,” he said in a press release. “Democrats’ lack of compassion for Minnesotans who were forced off their insurance, faced obstacles obtaining insurance or had their personal information placed at risk for identity theft is easily one of the biggest government failures in Minnesota history.”
Republicans claim public trust in the legislative system has eroded and vowed to address education, transportation and other issues in the future.
