The Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau is celebrating their 30th anniversary this year with an open house and a party.
“We promote tourism for the Austin area to enhance the economy of the community,” Executive Director Nancy Schnable said. CVB officials have made this statement their mission, and the last 30 years have been filled with many good memories.
“We have partnered with many organizations and businesses on some very successful events,” Schnable said in an email.
CVB officials will work with the Vision 2020 gateway committee on creating a new visitors center to welcome the different groups that make Austin a destination each year.
They have also started working with other organizations to reach more people and let them know about Austin. They have been working to find new ways to advertise, such as social media, print, radio, online banner ads, trade shows and other “non-traditional” ways.
The ultimate goal, according to Schnable, is to enhance the economy of the community by having the Austin area be known as a welcoming destination for conventions, meetings, events, group tours and visitors.
The CVB celebration will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, at the CVB office at 104 11th Ave. NW.
