ST. PAUL — Some lawmakers are wondering who really makes Minnesota’s laws.
On issues from medical marijuana to GPS tracking devices, Minnesota Public Radio reports, they’re frustrated with what they see as police and prosecutors spending too much time at the Capitol to protect and serve their own interests.
Rep. Carly Melin, DFL-Hibbing, says she’s frustrated that Gov. Mark Dayton won’t support a medical marijuana bill unless it has support from law enforcement.
Other lawmakers, who are trying to limit the amount of data authorities collect on citizens, say they’re also concerned with pushback.
Sen. Branden Petersen, R-Andover, says it’s the job of civilian legislators to hold law enforcement accountable.
