The Southland baseball team opened its season up with a 12-0 win in five innings at Rushford-Peterson (0-1 overall, 0-1 Three Rivers) Tuesday.
The Rebels (1-0 overall, 1-0 Three Rivers) racked up 12 hits in their first outdoor action of the Spring and Paxton Gray was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs.
“I was pleasantly surprised for our first time hitting live baseballs how well we hit the ball,” Southland head coach Scott Retterath said.
Southland senior Lukas Anderson struck out 11 as he picked up the shutout win on the mound. Anderson didn’t have much trouble as he allowed two hits and four walks, but Retterath felt he will get even better as the weather improves.
“You could tell it was his first time pitching off the mound [this year],” Retterath said. “He was a little rusty, but for the most part he pitched pretty decent.”
