Patricia (Ruth Ellen) Andresen, 93, died peacefully Friday, March 28, 2014, at home.
Pat was born June 23, 1920, to Claire and Mary (Lonergan) McCormick in Austin, Minn. She had one older brother, James. She graduated from Austin High School in 1938, and continued her education to become a radiology technician. She married Arthur Andresen July 30, 1942, in Austin. Later she worked in a variety of jobs close to home while she and Art raised four children. They bought their home in Richfield, Minn., in 1953, where she was able to stay until her death, with the live-in care of her oldest son, Jim, along with the support of the rest of her family. It was important to Pat to be able to enjoy the comforts of her home and her beloved cat, Simon.
Pat was a wonderful mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, dear friend and neighbor. She was always supportive of the activities of her children, grand-children and great-grandsons. She was there for nearly every sports game, concert, play, recital, school program, graduation and more. She was “famous” for baking, especially cookies which she made on a weekly basis for many years. Pat shared her deep pride in her 100 percent Irish heritage with family and friends. She and Art hosted a St. Patrick’s Day party every year in their Richfield home starting in 1954, and he was happy to wear his Honorary Irishman badge. The tradition continued after his death in 1981, and she was well enough to enjoy her 60th annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration with family and friends on March 16.
Survivors include her children; Joan (Ben) Andresen-Ostfield, of Plymouth, Minn.; Jim Andresen, of Richfield; Janet (Scott) Anderson, of Austin; and Mark (Patricia Smolka) Andresen, of Minneapolis; two grandchildren; Scott (Rachel) Andresen, of St. Paul; and Megan (Brandon) Kreps, of Moorhead; and four great-grandsons; Declan and Nolan Andresen, and Jaxon and Hendrix Kreps.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter-in-law Faye Andresen, parents and brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Assumption Catholic Church in Richfield. Interment immediately following the service in Assumption Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm. on Thursday, April 3, at the Morris-Nilson Funeral Chapel in Richfield. Condolences can be expressed to the family online at www.morrisnilsen.com.
