A Rochester woman was charged last week for allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase throughout Austin.

Kijafa Parsons, 31, faces counts of felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle, giving police a false name, driving after revocation and reckless driving.

According to a court complaint, officers spotted Parsons driving southbound into Austin on Highway 218 at a high rate of speed around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Police stopped Parsons at the intersection of 218 and 18th Avenue Northwest. She initially gave police another name, but officers found the picture didn’t match the driver when they checked her records. In addition, the other name only had a permit to drive. Parsons told police she didn’t have her glasses on her and had passed the driver’s test several weeks ago.

Parsons allegedly drove off when police tried to check her ID once more, according to the complaint.

Police chased her down 14th Street Northwest where she drove at more than 80 miles an hour. Police initially turned on their sirens to start a high-speed pursuit, but soon backed off after the woman swerved between lanes and wouldn’t slow down, according to the complaint.

Parsons allegedly traveled along First Avenue Southwest to the southeast part of town, where she blew out a tire trying to turn onto Fourth Street Southeast and fled the scene on foot.

Officers had followed her with the help of a few eyewitnesses and spotted her car, a 2007 silver Pontiac Grand Prix, in southeast Austin.

Parsons was eventually caught inside a garage at the 300 block of Third Street Southeast, according to the complaint. She had a revoked driver’s license and had an Olmsted County warrant for giving police false information.

Her next court appearance is May 8.
