Mower County’s burial costs have increased over the past few years and those costs could rise once again.
Health and Human Services Director Julie Stevermer told the county board during its Tuesday meeting that area funeral directors have asked the county to incur additional costs for cremations and burials.
She estimated the increases could amount to about $13,000 to $15,000 in added expenses.
The county had 34 county funerals in 2013, with 20 cremations and 14 traditional burials.
Stevermer estimated it cost the county about $60,000 for 2013 burials.
