Austin students Jared Meineke, Corey Todalen, Karter Schaub and Nick Payne competed in the SkillsUSA Championship, held in Bloomington, Minn., March 28-30.
Meineke took first place in screen printing, and Todalen took first place in graphic imaging-sublimation.
More than 800 students competed in 80 hands-on trade, technical and leadership contests.
Students worked against the clock and each other with contests in skills like welding, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts.
Top student winners received gold, silver and bronze medallions. Many received tools of their trade and/or scholarships to further their careers and education. The SkillsUSA Championships is for high school and college-level students who are members of SkillsUSA. First place winners will represent Minnesota in Kansas City this June 23-27, 2014, for the 50th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference.
