Scott Lynn Gardner, 40 of Austin, Minn., died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at his home in Austin.

Scott was born Aug. 14, 1973, in Austin the son of Brian and Meridee (Bates) Gardner. He attended Austin Public Schools and worked at the Hormel Foods Company and Quality Pork Processors. He recently became affiliated with M.S.O.C.S.

Scott was a loving father and devoted husband. He enjoyed coaching, attending and helping with his children’s sporting activities. An avid Twins and Vikings fan, Scott was also a softball player and pool player and had been captain and coach in both activities.  He also served as commissioner of a fantasy football league.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth and Ray Bates; brother, Curtis Gardner; niece Olivia Gardner; uncles, Mark, Larry and Michael; cousin, Tony and friend Glenn Joseph.

Scott is survived by his wife: Tawnya Gardner, Austin, Minn.; children, Jared, Jacob and Tori all of Austin, Minn.; mother, Meridee (Larry Hofner), Austin, Minn.; father, Brian Gardner, Sr. (Kelly Seys), Austin; grandmother, Rose Stundahl, Austin, Minn.; brothers and sisters, Larry Gardner, Jr. (Aimee Steen), Minneapolis, Minn., Tina (Scott) Miller, Austin, Kelly Gardner, Austin, Brian Jr. (Serena) Gardner, Albert Lea, Minn., Philip Gardner (Serena Gleason), Rose Creek, Minn.; mother-in-law, Ginny Lauritson, Burnsville, Minn.; father-in-law: Jan Enerson (Sue Leighton), Lyle, Minn.; grandmother, Leora Stromley, Lyle, Minn.; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

The Gardner family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Mayo Health Systems Austin Hospice Program and the Cornerstone Church for their loving care during Scott’s illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Cornerstone Church, 1403 First Ave. SW, Austin, with Pastor Aaron Broberg officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. The family prefers memorials. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
