Robert William Ferrington, 89, of Owatonna, Minn., peacefully joined his Lord and Savior Friday, March 7, 2014, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.
Bob was born July 16, 1924, in Austin, Minn., son of William and Sena Ferrington. Raised in rural Blooming Prairie, Bob attended country school and Blooming Prairie High School, graduating in 1943. He served in the Army from May 1945 through November 1946, during which he completed basic training in Louisiana and then was stationed in Japan with the occupation forces. Bob enjoyed telling his experiences and special friendships made during his times of service. He returned to the family farm and worked with his father until his passing in 1968, after which Bob continued with the crop farming, dairy, and hog operation, and he always appreciated this way of life. He also spent many years as 4-H leader. Serving the Lord through his church was very important and meaningful to Bob. He served in various offices and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Blooming Prairie until his stroke in 2000. Bob resided at Westside Board and Care until November 2013. Special thanks to Marvin and Janice Larson and the staff at Westside for the care and support given to Bob over the years, and to the staff at Homestead Hospice House who were wonderful to Bob during his last months. Words cannot express how grateful the family is for all of you.
Bob is survived by his sister, Verna Morrison, of Owatonna; nephews, Keith (Bernie) Morrison, of New London, Minn.; Lonny Morrison, of Belgrade, Minn.; nieces, Cheryl (Jim) Meyers, of Eau Claire, Wis., Becky (Scott) Piper, of Owatonna; Eight great-nieces and nephews, and six great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Sena Ferrington; nephew, Wayne Morrison; and great-nephew, Colin Piper.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Blooming Prairie. Interment will be in Blooming Prairie Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 52 and VFW Post 898. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
