Funeral services for Florence Gehling will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, Minn.; with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will take place in St. Finbarr Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the church and one hour prior to the service. Hindt Funeral Home of Grand Meadow is in charge of arrangements.
Florence Gehling, 92, of Grand Meadow, Minn., passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, Minn.
Florence Katherine Kraus was born Dec. 29, 1921, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Meiners) Kraus in Dedham, Iowa. She attended school until the eighth grade. On Oct. 20, 1943, Florence was united in marriage to Clarence Gehling in Roselle, Iowa, at Holy Angels Church. Florence was a hardworking farm wife and homemaker, caring for her children and animals, especially her Norwegian Elkhound dogs. In 1978, when St. Finbarr was being rebuilt, Florence took on the task of refinishing the Stations of the Cross and altar. She also enjoyed gardening, butterflies, hummingbirds, flowers, crocheting, traveling to Texas and Arizona, bingo, and collecting wine glasses and bells. Florence loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren.
Florence is survived by her children, Ronald (Lanna) Gehling of Preston, Minn.; Marvin (Linda) Gehling of Grand Meadow; Wayne (Carol) Gehling of Grand Meadow; and Elaine (Jim) Hegge of Kewanee, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella Vonnahme of Carroll, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Joan Hannasch of Rosemont, Minn.; Rita Gehling of Kilkenny, Minn.; Lois Gehling of Grand Meadow; and Virginia Broich of Lake View, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, brother, Clarence, and great granddaughter, Katelyn all preceded Florence in death.
Memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice.
