Browsdale Study Club

The February meeting of the Brownsdale Study Club met with Mary on Feb. 19.

La Vonne opened the meeting with the reading of the minutes and treasurers reports was read. Roll call was answered with the Best Valentine we received. There were seven members present.

There was a discussion of a possible new member.

The March meeting will be with Dorothy Anderson of Field Crest. Roll call will be: Looking forward to the first day of spring and discussion will include plans for the 90th anniversary. One possible location will be the community building. Committee includes Hazel, Fern, Sarah and Mary.

A possible spring trip will be The Brick House and the Historical Society at the fairgrounds.

There will be an outside reading by Mary.

Mount Rushmore: The sculptured heads of Washington, Jeffferson, Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt were done by Gutzon Borglum, 1927-1941. Each head is about six stories high. Mount Rushmore is many things — monument, memorial, landmark.

 

NARFE

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Chapter 469, met at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Pizza Ranch in Albert Lea.

Paula Wilson of Bonnerup Funeral Home was the speaker. Committee reports were given. Members were updated with information about the NARFE State Convention which will be held at the Holiday Inn in Owatonna on May 20-21. Chapter 469 will be hosting the convention along with the Owatonna Chapter. Registration forms are due March 20 along with $65 registration fee. members who wish to stay overnight must make their own hotel reservations by May 1.

Our next meeting will be April 8 at the Pizza Ranch in Austin.

 

Duplicate Bridge

Tournament results for March 5 with four tables played: First place, Orrion Roison and Dave Ring; second place, Joyce Crowe and Dr. Gene Muchow; third place, Larry Crowe and Ray Schmit; fourth place, Rich Stroup and Gene Domino; fifth place, Lue Schmitt and Loren Cleland.

Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Mower County Senior Center in Austin. All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 507-434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.
