The United Way of Mower County is moving down the road — but just a couple blocks.

The non-profit organization is now at 201 S Main St., in the Larson Law Office building and one block west of the U.S. Post Office in Austin.

The United Way moved out of its previous location, 301 N Main St., Suite 6, in late January.

“We were just looking for a space that had a little easier access with parking, and was more of an independent space for the United Way,” said Chris Grev, marketing and communications director for the local United Way.

Grev said the new rental location costs roughly the same as their old spot, but has a better layout for their needs, with a reception area, independent conference room and a couple of small offices. It’s also still downtown, and near other service centers like the Salvation Army, Mower County Public Health, SEMCAC and the Austin Welcome Center.

Grev said their office hours remain Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and their emails and phone numbers didn’t change, either.

Announcements coming

The United Way has been without an executive director since Mandi Lighthizer-Schmidt left in early January, but that soon may change.

Grev said the United Way’s executive committee is making call-back interviews for Lighthizer-Schmidt’s replacement, and they hope to make an offer by the end of March.

Lighthizer-Schmidt, executive director since 2005, took a position with the Willmar Public School District.

The United Way is also wrapping up its annual fundraising campaign. The goal is $1.1 million after raising $1.03 million last year and a record $1.04 million the year before.

Grev said the United Way will announce the total in April, as its fiscal year ends March 31.
