Packer gymnasts break Section 1A record and get to state meet

The Packer gymnastics team not only clinched their third straight trip to state, they also set a new Section 1A standard in Simley Saturday.

The Packers posted a section record score of 149.225 to win the Section 1A meet.

Austin also set a new section record with its vault score.

“It was a good day for the girls,” Austin head coach Mark Raymond said. “We had a rough day on bars, otherwise it would have been a great day. Let’s hope we pull it out all together Friday.”

Austin senior Sela Fadness won the all-around, Maddie Mullenbach was second in all-around and Abby Bickler was third in all-around.

Austin will compete in the Class ‘A’ team state meet Friday in at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis and Fadness, Mullenbach, Bickler and Carolyn Hackel will compete in the Class ‘A’ individual state meet Saturday at the U of M Sports Pavilion.

Austin finished third at state last year and this will be their fourth state meet appearance in the past five seasons.
