County to start taking passport photos

Mower County will soon save people traveling abroad an extra step.
The recorder’s office will soon purchase a camera to begin taking photos for passports for $12.
The office already handles passports, but has never taken pictures. Several local businesses offer to take passport photos at a lesser fee, and commissioners said they don’t want to compete with businesses. They see the photos as a convenience issue for customers, and Recorder Jill Cordes said rules may soon go into place requiring counties to take photos for passports.
