Paramount Theatre: Movie series debut pushed back to Jan. 30

The Paramount Theatre’s plan to take a step back in its history is taking a little longer than expected.
Paramount Theatre Executive Director Jennie Knoebel said the first showing of the Paramount Movie Series has been pushed back from this Thursday to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30.
Knoebel and Paramount officials wanted more time to get the word about the movie, the 1934 film “Cleopatra,” after it took some time to secure rights to show the film.
The Paramount operated as a movie theater from 1929 to 1975. As part of the theater’s 85th anniversary, Paramount officials plan to show a movie from every decade the Paramount was open. The plan is to show movies that played at the Paramount. It’ll kick off with a movie from the 1930s in January, the 1940s in February, the 1950s in March, the 1960s in April and the 1970s in May.
“All of the movies that we’re going to show next season have been shown at the theater during the time it was open,” Knoebel said.
Many of the films have already been announced: “Ziegfeld Girl” in February, “An American in Paris” in March, “The Ten Commandments” in April and “The Godfather Part II” in May.
In September, the Paramount is planning a movie fundraising event in conjunction with the anniversary.
Tickets for the movies are $5.
