The Austin wrestling team lost to Rochester Mayo (7-4 overall, 5-2 Big Nine) 40-27 on the road Friday.

Chris Romero picked up a pin at 106 pounds for Austin (5-14 overall, 2-6 Big Nine) and Aiden Wilson picked up a pin at 120.

“I was pleased with how both of these kids continuously pushed the pace of their match until their guy couldn’t keep up and they eventually came through with a pin,” Austin interim head coach Jer Osgood said.

Eli Kaercher trailed 5-2 with 10 seconds left in his match at 220 when he scrambled and put his opponent on his back to pick up a 5-4 win.

“Eli wrestled the entire six minutes,” Osgood said. “He never quit fighting and he was determined to get the win.”
