Our Opinion: Congrats on boys’ great run

The Austin High School boys basketball team may have lost Saturday, but it has achieved a mighty accomplishment: 31 games without a loss at home.

We congratulate the Packers for putting together an accomplished team over the past few years, and for an important milestone in the Packer program. All 31 wins at home mean there were 31 times Austin residents got to roar in triumph as high school athletes beat their competition.

It’s an impressive feat, considering the last time Austin lost at home before recently was in March 2011 to Rochester Century. The Packers have put together an impressive basketball program during that time, including last year’s state tournament team, which took second place overall in Class AAA.

We urge the team to learn from the loss, and not dwell on it. While continued success is a great thing to strive toward, we cannot appreciate our victories without suffering a defeat or two along the way.

So here’s to AHS boys basketball. We’re confident the remainder of the team’s season will bring more wins than losses, and hope someday to see a 32-plus home-game winning streak.
