The Riverland Community College men’s basketball team struggled on offense as it lost 79-49 to No. 9 ranked Anoka-Ramsey 79-49 in Riverland Gym Wednesday.
The Blue Devils (7-7 overall, 0-1 MCAC South) shot just 29 percent from the field, they missed 19 3-pointers and they committed 18 turnovers in the loss. The Rams (12-2 overall, 1-0 MCAC South) took a big lead early and never looked back.

“We couldn’t get anything to fall,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “Partially because they’re a good team and partially because we had guys taking shots they don’t normally take.”
AR dominated the paint as their Joey Weldon, a 6-foot, 6-inch center, finished with 22 points, 15 rebounds and six steals in 20 minutes.
“I knew going in were going to have issues with these guys,” Koenigs said. “They’ve got a lot folder guys and they’re not kids, they’re men. We played nervous and we looked nervous. We played like it was our first game.”
Austin grad Goliath Oboyo had seven points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals for RCC, but the Blue Devils top two scorers were held in check in the loss. Guillermo DeDiego and Andrew Lau combined to shoot just 6-for-28 from the field.
“When Lau and DeDiego have bad games, we’re going to struggle,” Koenigs said.
