Harold A. Wiste, 83, of Adams, Minn., died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System — Austin.

Harold Andrew Wiste was born on July 21, 1930, to Alfred and Hattie (Halverson) Wiste. He lived on the family farm north of Adams. In 1948, he graduated from Adams High School, his favorite sport in school was basketball. After graduation, he served in the Army for two years during the Korean conflict. On May 27, 1961, Harold married Alice Espe in Austin, Minn. Harold was a farmer, first in Adams with his family, then in Mabel, Minn. Later, Harold and Alice moved to Rochester, where he farmed and worked for the state highway department. In 1972, they moved to a farm north of Adams. In 2005, Harold and Alice moved to Adams. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, watching sports on TV, and going to auctions and rummage sales with his good friend Orrie Anderson. His favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23 and favorite hymn was “I Love to Tell the Story.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul, Bill and Dave, five sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law.

Harold is survived by his wife Alice, three children: Lyle (Kathy) Wiste, of Gaylord, Minn.; Duane (Holly) Wiste, of Arden Hills, Minn.; Paula (Alan) Schmitz, of Adams; five grandchildren: Matthew, Morgan and Maxwell Schmitz, Jeremy and Hannah Wiste; sisters-in-law: Kathleen Wiste, Evangeline Reimann, Janeth Espe, and Helen Espe; brother-in-law: Reese Butterfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams with the Reverend Jeremy Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery with Adams American Legion Post 146 in charge of military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Adams Funeral Home and at the church for one hour before the service on Wednesday morning.
