Blanche Haugland, 84, of Austin, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Our House Memory Care, Austin.

Blanche Vivian Thoe was born June 29, 1929, in Hayfield, Minn., to Knut and Ella (Wilson) Thoe. After finishing high school, she married Donald Haugland in Austin, where she then worked for Hormel Foods Corp. until 1983. Soon after her retirement, they moved to Cushing, Minn. Donald passed away July 14, 1997. In 2001, Blanche moved back to Austin. She liked doing all kinds of crafts, and especially enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. Blanche also enjoyed gardening and ceramics.

Survivors include two sisters, Janice (John) Augustin of Austin and Betty Hayes of Chino Hills, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Knut and Ella Thoe, her husband Donald Haugland, two sons Raymond in 1997, and Donald in 2003, her brothers Earl, Sterling, Verlyn, and Delmont, and her sister Esther Thoe.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Rev. Brian Krueger officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or to recipient of donor’s choice.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
