Bentlee Brayden Michael Oswald, 4 days, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
He was born on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at 8:02 p.m. in Rochester Methodist Hospital to Leah Oswald and Damion Ballman.
We were eager to meet our little boy and were prepared for the necessary surgeries for his conditions he was prenatally diagnosed with. It was a huge heart break for family and friends to find out when he was two days old that his time here would be cut so much shorter than what was thought we would have.
Bentlee was prenatally diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) as well as a bilateral cleft lip and cleft palate, at two days old he was diagnosed with Trisomy 13 (T13). As a result of the T13 diagnosis we chose to take him off of life support so he would no longer have to suffer. T13 is a fatal chromosome abnormality that effects about 1 in 10,000 live births (http://trisomy.org/trisomy-13-facts/).
Bentlee is survived by parents, Damion and Leah; half-sister, Kyla; grandparents, Matt Oswald, and Chad and Jessica Ballman (Goodell); aunts and uncles, Denae Oswald, Dexter and McKinze Oswald (Milton), Laine Oswald, and Mason Oswald; Kelsey Ballman, Grant Sargent, Rhya Ballman, and Lydia Ballman; cousins, Grayce Ballman and Emmie Ballman.
A sincere thank you to Kayla Leeper for the unconditional love and support for Bentlee and Leah throughout this time.
Bentlee is preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Oswald (Freese).
Visitation will be at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, with a funeral service following the visitation at 6 p.m. with Pastor Fred Vanderwerf officiating.
