John William Guildner, 90

The funeral service for John William Guildner will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Assemblies of God Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Lee Freshour will officiate. Interment will be in Stanton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, as well as one hour prior to the service at church.

John Guildner died on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Heath System in Albert Lea. He was 90 years old.

John was born on Nov. 15, 1923, in Randolph and was the son of Frederick and Lizzette Guildner. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1940 and went on to radio engineering school in Minneapolis. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he taught radio theory and set up radar in the South Pacific as the islands were liberated. On Dec. 19, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary Eileen Werrbach in Stanton and settled in Albert Lea shortly after.

John was a radio engineer in Jamestown, N.D., and at KATE Radio in Albert Lea. He founded Johnny’s Electronics in 1950 with radio and phono services and sales, as well as introducing black and white and color TV to the area.

John was a member of Assemblies of God Church since 1946 and was very active as a teacher and board member. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling to visit friends, going to the cabin, gardening, music and especially fishing. He will be deeply missed.

John is survived by his children Lee Ellen Sundholm of Albert Lea, Bruce Guildner of St. Charles and Celeste (Merle) Krause of Albert Lea; grandchildren Denise (Dave) Oakes, Greg (Nancy) Sundholm, Danielle (Chris) Register, Andrea Guildner, Bridget Guildner, Molly Dumar, Brandon (Danielle) Krause and Yvonne Krause; great-grandchildren, Justin (Molly) Hanson, Aaron Oakes, Sean Oakes, Tristan Register, Jarrod Guildner, Darren Guildner, Anastasia Krause and Aubriella Krause; sister Elda Lace of Northfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Lizzie; wife, Eileen; son, Dana; brothers Glenn and Paul; and sisters Edna and Ruth.
