Free house has no takers

DULUTH — There was plenty of interest in the offer. A two-story, three bedroom solid brick house in Duluth was free for the taking.

But, the cost of moving the house from its current location was too much for the 50, or so, people who inquired about the home. Developer Mark Lambert tells the Duluth News Tribune there are no takers and the house will be razed Tuesday or Wednesday after Minnesota Power disconnects the electricity.

Moving the house could cost more than its assessed value at nearly $140,000. Bluestone Commons plans to build a restaurant at the site.

The house is one of seven on Woodland Ave. that the company has purchased for future development. The other six are occupied, but will either be moved or razed in the next couple years.
