Rita I. Lickteig, 83, of Austin, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at her home.

Rita was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Austin to Stephen and Catherine (Cassady) Lickteig. She was the youngest of 15 children. Rita attended grade school and graduated from St. Augustine High School in Austin.

Rita was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She worked for the George A. Hormel Company for 40-plus years in the office, and was very active at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center where she really enjoyed spending time.

Survivors include her sister, Thomasine Farnsworth, Hutchinson, Kan.; sister-in-law, Marion Lickteig, Rose Creek, Minn.; many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Catherine Lickteig; 13 siblings, Mary (Lloyd) Cotter, Joseph (Freida & Genevieve) Lickteig, Catherine (Jack) Eagen, Frank (Orene) Lickteig, Stephen (Esther) Lickteig, John (Olive) Lickteig, Isadore (Rose) Lickteig, George (Rena) Lickteig, Abbey (Leonard) Chase, Fred (Eleanor) Lickteig, James (Fern) Lickteig, Paul Lickteig (Brother Samuel), Charlie Lickteig.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. The family will greet friends at a luncheon following the service. Interment will be in St. John’s Abbey Cemetery.

To her nieces and nephews, Rita was: all wrapped up in one — sister, aunt, mother, grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Austin Food Shelf and charities to assist the poor.
