Gary E. Mees, 52, of Dexter, Minn., died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at his home.

Gary was born Feb. 13, 1961, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., the son of Elvern and Beverly (Davis) Mees. He graduated from Southland High School in the class of 1979. Gary was married to Carrie Sathre on April 17, 1982, they were later divorced. For 21 years, Gary was employed by the Hormel Foods Corp. He later worked at Howe Countertops in Dexter and he also farmed.

Gary was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Elkton and had served as the president of the congregation. He enjoyed trips up north with his family for boating and waterskiing. He liked racing, snowmobiling, farming, hunting and carpentry.

Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herb and Sophie Mees and Ben and Doris Davis.

Gary is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Jayme Mees and Gregory VanNess, of Hudson, Wis.; Lindsey and Shane Hanson, of Adams, Minn.; Whitney and Jake Schotanus, Adams; grandchildren: Lane Hanson and Jackson Schotanus; parents: Elvern and Beverly Mees, of Elkton, Minn.; sisters, brothers and spouses: Patti and Marv Lloyd, of Chetek, Wis.; Del and Tammy Mees, of Dexter, Minn.; Debbie and Chris Farrell, of Austin, Minn.; Vern and Jody Mees, of Byron, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elkton, Minn., with the Reverend Liz Erickson officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Wednesday morning. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
