If you’re tired of hauling around candy after Halloween this year, why not donate some to troops overseas?
That’s the question local dentists Elrod, Green and Hyland DDS are asking. On Friday, Nov. 1, and Monday, Nov. 4, Elrod, Green and Hyland will buy back Halloween candy at $1 a pound to send to U.S. soldiers serving overseas as part of the nonprofit effort Operation Gratitude.
“It’s a win-win for everyone,” said Carol Miller, administrative assistant at Elrod, Green and Hyland. “We like to be able to help out the troops, because they’re sure doing an awesome job of protecting us.”
The dentist office sent 100 pounds of candy, along with toothbrushes, to troops overseas last year in its first effort to buy back candy. Miller said the office hopes to send even more candy this year.
Residents can drop off candy from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. All residents are invited to donate candy.
