While changes were evident on the outside of the former A&W All-American Food in Austin on Thursday, its owner says it’s still for sale and their are no new developments.

Owner Gregg Johnson said A&W Restaurants Inc. simply asked him to take the signs down, which was completed Thursday.

The landmark drive-in restaurant closed a year ago after roughly 75 years in Austin.

The property, across the street from the Austin hospital, is next to three homes the hospital purchased over the past couple years.

“Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea and Austin has not purchased the A&W property at this time,” said Tami Yokiel, hospital spokesperson. “No final decisions have been made.”
