The Austin football team is moving on from last week’s 57-14 loss to Mankato West and its hoping to get back to playing quality football when it plays at Rochester John Marshall this Friday at 7 p.m.
The Rockets (2-0 overall, 2-0 Big Nine) are coming off of big wins over Albert Lea and Winona and their defense has been stout as they’re allowing just 9 points per game.
Austin’s offense struggled last week against a tough Mankato West defense.
“You try to forget stuff like that, but you try to learn from it as well,” Austin quarterback Ryan Synoground said. “We didn’t execute at all (against West) and offensively we’ve been going hard in practice this week. We’re trying to get back to playing better.”
The Packers (0-2 overall, 0-2 Big Nine) know they’ll be in for another tough matchup as Friday’s game will be the home opener for the Rockets.
“They have a really good team,” Austin head coach Brett Vesel said. “They have some real physical guys, they’ve got some height and they’ve got some fast guys. They’re a well rounded team. We’re a physical team and I think it’s going to be a physical game.”
The Packers are hoping to get their offense back to where it was in the Faribault game, when they produced two TD drives in the fourth quarter.
“Hopefully we can make some improvements and get back to doing what we thought we did good over the summer and earlier in the year,” Vesel said. “We think we can compete with those guys, but we’ve got to come to play and we have to execute on offense. Our defense did some good things last week, but we have to control the ball better.”
