Doris Petersen, 83, of Alden, died on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate and interment will be in Carlston Cemetery in Freeborn County following the service. Please see www.brussheitner.com to leave online condolences. Doris Petersen was born June 15, 1930, the daughter of George and Thea Malinda (Pettersen) Jergensen. Doris was a graduate of Rake High School, the class of 1948. Doris had worked at Singers Store in Wells and St. Paul Clothing in Albert Lea. On March 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to Gerald W. Petersen in Rake, Iowa, and the couple made their home in Alden. She was a devoted and faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was involved with the altar guild. She was a Legion auxiliary member and past president. She belonged to two card clubs and Busy Fingers sewing group. Doris volunteered for many of her interests. She was a self-employed caterer for more than 25 years. She loved cooking and baking; especially apple pies. She published a cookbook, “Bon Appetite,” and taught at the Albert Lea Vo-Tech, teaching deli and catering for more than six years. Doris was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching her grandchildren in sporting events and their many school activities. Doris loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted farm wife and mother.

Doris is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gerry Petersen; three children: Paulette (Carl) Rasmussen, David (Shari) Petersen and Susan (Dan) Reindal, all of Alden; seven grandchildren, Angela (Jason) Schmidt of Waseca, Melissa Rasmussen, Jason (Kristin) Petersen and Joshua (Anita) Petersen, all of Alden, William (Angela) Petersen of St. Peter, Heath (Diana) Reindal of Alden and Tana (Jason) Christensen of Bricelyn; six great-grandchildren, Noah and MacKenna Schmidt, Ashlyn Petersen, Lilah and Charlotte Reindal and Oakley Christensen; one sister, Violet Hoeg of Wells; two sisters-in-law, Alice Jergensen of Bricelyn and LaVonne Jergensen of Rochester; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Marion “Sparky,” Roger and Obert Jergensen; sisters, Frances Beckmann and Evelyn Novak; three sisters in infancy; and brothers- and sisters-in- law, Norman (Wilma) Petersen and Kelsey (LaVonne) Petersen.
