130828.StierJerryJerry A. Stier, 81, of Grand Meadow, Minn., died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at his home in Grand Meadow.

Born Sept. 2, 1931, in Grand Meadow, he was the son of Alvin and Marcella (Armstrong) Stier and brother to seven siblings. Jerry graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1949, and enlisted in the Air Force, serving our country until 1954. On June 27, 1953, Jerry was united in marriage to Helen Christopherson of Spring Valley. Jerry and Helen resided in Valdosta, Ga., their first year of marriage and returned to Grand Meadow to make their home.

Jerry worked for Interstate Power Company for more than 35 years. He was an active member of the GM Volunteer Fire Department for many years and served as fire chief. He was a charter member of the Grand Meadow Quarterback Club, Pheasants and Habitat SE MN and the Grand Meadow Development Corporation. He was active in a variety of groups and organizations in Grand Meadow and held many offices in those including GM American Legion Post 140, St Finbarr’s Catholic Church and Grand Meadow Schools and Booster Clubs. Jerry was always a driver in the development of the Grand Meadow Community. His love of sports and hunting and fishing created many wonderful friendships and memories throughout the years.

There was nothing more important to Jerry than his faith in God, his wife, Helen, their five children, 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Jerry and Helen have one son, Craig (Carol) Stier of Grand Meadow; four daughters, Deb (Randy) Queensland of Grand Meadow, Diane Hodge of Rochester, Jane (Jeff) Lund of Grand Meadow, and Jill (Mike) Smith of Grand Meadow; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Kathleen “Kitty” (Norm) Sween of Grand Meadow, Francis (Barb) Stier of Grand Meadow, Adrian Stier of San Diego, Calif., David (Bonnie) Stier of Gridley, Calif., Sylvia Christian of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Suzanne (Tom) Kjeer of Ostrander, Minn.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Richard Stier and numerous beloved black labrador retrievers, waiting at the pearly gates to bring him “home.”

Memorial services for Jerry Stier will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at St. Finbarr Catholic Church with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will be at Grand Meadow Cemetery with military rites by the Grand Meadow American Legion Post 140. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 at St. Finbarr Catholic Church and one hour before the service.
