Employment applications for Austin’s new fire chief position are due this Friday.

According to the city of Austin’s website, applications are due at 5 p.m. Aug. 23. Physical agility testing and a written test will be overseen by the Civil Service Commission and held at the Austin Fire Department on Saturday, Sept. 7. The CSC will conduct interviews the week of Sept. 9 and later make a recommendation to the Austin City Council, which must approve the new hire.

Tricia Wiechmann, city human resources director, said as of Monday there were just two applications filed. She expects more, however, by the end of the week.
