Melvin was born March 6, 1926, in Riceville, Iowa to George and Eva (Johnson) King. On March 20, 1944, he married Maxine Spellman and they had two sons. He also enjoyed deer hunting along with Brad and Patrick at his sister’s farm in Harmony, Minn. In his later years he and Brad fished at the channel in Albert Lea, Minn., where they caught more Walleyes than they ever did. Melvin spent many hours sitting in his recliner in his garage preparing fishing poles for his next outing.
