Things went about as bad as they could’ve for the Austin Post 1216 VFW baseball team in a 17-2 loss to Northfield in Marcusen Park Tuesday.
Austin (10-5 overall, 4-4 District) committed eight errors in the loss and Northfield tacked on eight runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away.
Austin trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the first inning when Post 1216 had its first three runners reach base. But with the bases loaded and no outs, the next three Austin hitters were retired in order to end the threat.
Austin got on the board in the fourth when Jason Stoulil and Dylan Gasner each had RBI singles to make it a 6-2 game.
Austin pitcher Daniel Bollingberg allowed just two earned runs in five innings of work.
