Zonta Club
Representatives from local organizations received donations from the Zonta Club of Austin at Zonta’s monthly business meeting on May 14.
The Zonta Club of Austin’s annual fundraising efforts generate donations for several local organizations, including The Welcome Center, Sumner Care Closet, Mower County American Red Cross, Austin Adult Learning, River Valley Girl Scouts, March of Dimes and Relay For Life.
Southern Minnesota Bike Club
The Southern Minnesota Bike Club recently held its semi-annual road cleanup on south Highway 105.
The club was formed in 1992 and is in the process of reorganization; currently there are 33 members. Club plans include multiple weekly road-rides and family-friendly rides on the Austin walk/bike trails. For more information, contact Rydjor Bike in Austin.

South Side 4-H Club
Members of the South Side 4-H Club picked up trash in the ditches before their June 2 meeting. The club has participated in the Adopt a Highway program since 1990. Pictured are the members that participated.
Duplicate Bridge
Tournament results for June 19 with five tables played: first, Dave Magee and Tom Flaherty; second, Bud Higgins and Jim Fisher; third, Dave Ring and Orrion Roisen; fourth, Eunice Michealis and Warren Behrends; fifth, Marilyn Gesme and Rommelle Enderson.
Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Mower County Senior Center in Austin. All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 507-434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.
National Active and Retired Federal Employees
National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 469 met Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at the Pizza Ranch in Austin. It was reported Faribault NARFE chapter will help the Owatonna and Albert Lea/Austin chapters with the 2014 state convention.
Norma Naatz spoke on the church mission trip she and nine others took to Joplin, Mo., in August 2011 to aid in getting schoools there ready for the upcoming school year and repairing buildings after the EF5 tornado of May 2011. President Jonathon Green reported on the 2013 state convention. John Schmidt was re-elected state president, Michelle Benson membership vice president, Scott Halstead legislative vice president, Karen Thygeson secretary and Clayton Olson treasurer. A silent auction raised $2,002 for Alzheimer’s. The next scheduled meeting is Aug. 13 at the Pizza Ranch in Albert Lea.
