Our opinion: Use summer caution

School let out last week for many children in the region, and we want to remind motorists to watch for children on bikes and walking around neighborhoods during normal work hours.
Austin is a city of 24,718, according to the 2010 census. It stands to reason that during the day, when there are more kids playing and frolicking outside, there are many cars driving in the city.
And good weather means motorcycles. They tend to be out in the afternoons.
In general, during the warm months, there is more stuff for daytime drivers to be watching: motorcycles, bicycles, kids crossing the road improperly, you name it. Be careful out there. Slow down. Don’t look only for other cars. Be ready for two-wheeled vehicles and pedestrians. Keep a watch out for the children of our fair city. We want them to enjoy their summer break, not end up in a hospital.
