Genevieve Mary Arndt, 97, of Austin, Minn., died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Comforcare Good Samaritan in Austin.

Genevieve was born Oct. 31,1915, the ninth of 10 children to the Irish family of Dan and Katie (Shugrue) Gorman, in Thunder Hawk, S.D., The family moved to Austin when Genevieve was a young girl. There she completed her education and took a job at the Hormel plant. On Sept. 22, 1934, she married Emil A. Arndt and they raised five children. Emil died Feb. 29, 1984, and Genevieve began working as a foster care worker for Mower County. She continued this work until her retirement at age 84.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Emil (Dude) Arndt and Donald; six brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by sons Larry Arndt of Brownsdale, Minn., David (Eddie) Arndt of New Orleans, La.; daughter Beverly (Ron) Dotzenrod of Rochester, Minn.; daughter-in-law Deanna Arndt of Austin; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Genevieve Arndt will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There will be visitation held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Salvation Army.
