Dense fog advisory welcomes in week; strong storms possible Tuesday and Wednesday

Austin is under a dense fog advisory this morning through 9 a.m., as the National Weather Services is warning of visibility of a quarter mile or less in places.

The weather service is also warning of the potential for severe thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday, especially south of Interstate 90. The storms bring the potential for large hail, damaging winds and flash flooding. There is another chance for severe weather on Friday.

  • Today: Areas of dense fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 76. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.
  • Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 59. Light south wind.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
  • Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 65. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Northeast wind 8 to 10 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. North wind 7 to 10 mph.
