Blanche E. Nelson, 88, of Austin, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Comforcare Care Center in Austin.
Blanche Esther Shirk was born Nov. 28, 1924, at Morristown, Minn., the daughter of George and Violet (Steele) Shirk. She attended Austin High School and worked as “Rosie the Riveter” at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., during WWII. Blanche was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the VFW Auxiliary and the hoe and grow garden club. She had served as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout leader.
Blanche enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, car trips “up north” and antiquing. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed everything it had to offer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Nelson; brother, Don Shirk; sisters, Dorothy, Florence and Mary.
Blanche is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Boughton, Coppell, Texas; son, Rick Nelson, Irving, Texas; son-in-law, Tom Boughton, Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Amy Boughton, Plano, Shayne Nelson, Plano, Ryan Nelson, Irving; brothers-in-law, Joe Smith, Austin, Minn., John Evenson, Georgia; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Clasen- Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday for one hour before the service.
