Local letter carriers will hold their 20th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday.
Austin residents can place nonperishable food items in bags or boxes near their mailboxes for carriers and volunteers to collect before 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11. Donations may also be left at the Salvation Army or Post Office. In rural areas, check with local post offices for participation details.
Locally, the event is employed by members of the National Association of Letter Carriers and National Rural Letter Carriers Association of Austin. Last year, members collected more than 9,000 pounds of food, and the five-year average is 10,250 pounds.
Nationally, it is the 21st year the NALC has held a food drive. Since the beginning, the drive has collected more than 1 billion pounds of food.
