Norman B. Braadland was born in Eden Township in Winnebago County, Iowa, on Aug. 4, 1933, to Julia (Knutson) and Thore Braadland. Norman was the youngest for four children and grew up in the Thompson area.
Being the youngest he spent a lot of time with his mother, Julia, and learned his love for cooking from her. He was always looking for and trying out new recipes. It didn’t matter if it was baking a cake or creating a main dish, he loved to cook. Norman also learned about farming from his father, which he continued to do throughout his life. When he officially retired he took up a new hobby of working on classic tractors. He started with a Farmall B, his pride and joy, and acquired several others.
Affectionately known as “Tubby” by his friends, Norman always looked on the bright side. He would never pass up a chance for a good laugh, whether it was teasing his daughters and giving them a rough time, or catching up with friends at the local parade. He enjoyed life and making the most of it.
Norman is survived in death by his two daughters, Joy Salazar and her husband, Jose Luis Salazar, and her three children, and Sarah Drugg and her husband, Jason Drugg, and her two daughters. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, David Sorensen of Bemidji; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Norman is preceded in death by his mother, Julia; father, Thore; two brothers, Arnie and Merel; one sister, Pearl Thorland; and his wife, Judith (Sorensen).
