Northwestern Singers joining sounds with Austin Big Band

The Northwestern Singers and The Austin Big Band will be joining to present “In the Mood” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the Historic Paramount Theatre in Austin.
This is the first ever collaboration of the Austin Big Band and Northwestern Singers. The show will make you tap your toes, dance in the aisles or just sit back and relax.
Enjoy many of your favorite big band and jazz songs such as “Chatanooga Choo Choo,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “This Joint is Jumpin’,” “In The Mood,” “String of Pearls,” “Stardust,” “Girl from Ipanema” and many more favorites.
Some newer Michael Buble songs, “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” and “Everything” are also part of the lineup. Nikky Krautbauer and Maria Wilson are co-directing this show.
The Austin High School jazz band, under the direction of Brad Mariska, will also make a guest appearance.

The Northwestern Singers have been performing in Austin for almost 60 years. The group is made up of 40 singers ranging in age from the 20s to the 70s from many different backgrounds whose common bond is singing and performing.
The singers are from Austin, Albert Lea and many surrounding communities.
Music education is an important mission of the NWS. They host a benefit concert for Austin youth music programs each November. To date, the NWS have given the youth music programs more than $39,000.
They also sponsor a scholarship at Riverland Community College. In addition to the spring show and November benefit concert, the NWS present a show every January.
