Herman Matheis, 88

Herman Matheis, longtime resident of Cinnaminson, N.J., died at the age of 88 years old.
Herman grew up in rural Minnesota, namely the Johnsburg and Adams areas, and was a graduate of Visitation High School in Stacyville, Iowa. After serving his country in the Navy, he attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, for two years, and then completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Iowa.
Herman began his professional career at Price Waterhouse & Co. in New York City and became a CPA after five years of employment. For the remainder of his career he served as treasurer/controller of several companies, primarily in the electronics industry.
Herman was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, singing in the choir, and served as treasurer of their Over-Fifty Club as well as the Respect Life Committee. He was also a volunteer at Caregivers of Moorestown for many years.
Herman is survived by his wife, Evelyn (nee Babish) of 50 years; his sister, Genevieve Medgarden of Austin, Minn.; sister-in-law Velma Matheis of Adams; sons John G. Thyberg Sr., Jerome Thyberg; daughter Bernadette (Robert) Plaza; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives attended his Life Celebration on Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 9 to 10:45 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 2500 Branch Pike, Cinnaminson, N.J. 08077. The internment was held at Lakeview Memorial Park, Route 130 North, Cinnaminson.
